Palgrave Brown has claimed that its structural insulated panel (SIPs) construction system has allowed a developer to construct eight flats in14 weeks.
Wheatshield Ltd used the system to convert an area of brownfield land, home to derelict warehouses, into eight one-bedroom properties near Southampton Water, with Palgrave Brown delivering roof trusses, TJI joists, flooring, spandrel panels, staircases and all the internal walls, as well as the SIPs system..
Palgrave Brown national product manager Garry Dyke said that the company had been able to deliver “precision-designed” elements of the SIPs system and other timber products to minimise construction delays. Wheatfield director Scott Pinnick added that the company was “really pleased with the speed of the build”.
“Even though the first fix was delayed by the weather…once the development was out of the ground, we were really pleased with the speed of the build,” said Mr Pinnick.
“We were particularly impressed with how easily the components slotted together. The precision of the engineering made airtight installation really straightforward.”
Palgrave Brown added that Wheatfield has specified the SIPs system for another development on Southampton Water consisting of 14 properties.
