A push to promote parquet is underway in Europe.

The European Federation of the Parquet Industry (FEP) has already implemented public relations campaigns aimed at consumers and is now pressing the organisers of Domotex – the world’s largest flooring fair – to create an arena especially for parquet.

FEP board member Ralph Plessmann says parquet is one of the few flooring products to achieve constant growth rates in recent years – a trend he believes will continue.

Speaking at the Domotex press conference he said that to increase consumption the product needs to be more in the public spotlight and added that a large number of parquet exhibitors had signed up for January’s Domotex 2002.

He went on: ‘No doubt parquet will be presented in a range of products, types and wood species as never seen before.

‘I would welcome it if Domotex could create a focus for the parquet sector in the future. It would be especially good for both suppliers and customers to have a central marketplace for parquet in Europe, and possibly worldwide.’

He also called on organisers of similar fairs throughout Europe to liaise to ensure events do not clash adding: ‘Domotex could then be assured of an even higher number of exhibitors.’
