Production increases in central and eastern Europe drove a 4% growth in parquet flooring sales in 2007, according to the European Federation of the Parquet Industry (FEP).

Initital sales figures from FEP’s member countries indicate that more than 110 million m² was sold in 2007.

This growth is set to continue in 2008 according to FEP, although it noted that a strong market was “dependent on parquet products further strengthening their market share in various domains of a fiercely competitive market”.

“The foundation for the promising global…market development in the past year was certainly laid by the sound performance of the major EU countries, induced amongst others by a fluctuating but generally improving consumer confidence as well as by the actualisation and growing appeal of genuine wood flooring quality products at end consumer level,” said FEP.
