Benfield ATT managing director Dr Michael Benfield, a speaker at “Construction Waste – what a waste” in Cardiff, also said architects, surveyors, and engineers should bear costs related to errors in their designs.
He said designers needed to realise that off-site buildings required detailed design for all construction elements before work commenced, as alterations were difficult to make later.
“Failure to understand this is both jeopardising MMC and costing clients and contractors small fortunes to correct. Partnering for the whole design, supply and construction chain is a vital process that must be developed to correct this.”
Mr Benfield shared details of how poor input from architects had delayed projects and increased costs. He also described the “huge benefits” of three-dimensional designing.
