Saint-Gobain Building Distribution has announced plans to close the Wardle site of Pasquill Roof Trusses with the loss of 37 jobs.
The proposal, the company said, reflected the need to align capacity with current demand from the UK housing market.
“Levels of activity in the UK housing sector have declined dramatically since the start of the year and this situation is expected to continue in the foreseeable future,” it said.
Saint-Gobain wants to transfer activity from Wardle to other businesses within its timber engineering group. The Pasquill design team will also transfer to another site.
“Consultation with affected employees has now begun, and every effort is being made to find alternative employment opportunities at other sites across the group.”
