The Slovenian system is applying for PEFC endorsement for the first time, while the French system is applying for a second five-year endorsement period.

Independent consultants will assess the systems against the international PEFC Council requirements for forest certification schemes.

Full documentation of the two systems is available at www.pefc.org and comments are invited by July 29.

Meanwhile, the Japanese government has included PEFC-certified products as legal and sustainable in its new public timber procurement policy.
