Pfeifer’s Chanovice sawmill increases efficiency

17 April 2023

The Austrian Pfeifer Group has now invested more than €100m in the modernization of the infrastructure at the Chanovice sawmill since acquiring the facility in 2016.

The investment has reflected in the output. In 2022, the sawmill in Chanovice exceeded a total cutting output of 757,000m3, making it one of the largest sawmills in the Czech Republic.

Since 2016 the location has been continuously developing at all levels. New technologies in roundwood sorting and sawn timber drying capacity has increased the efficiency of the plant many times over.

With more efficient drying chambers in operation, from April the sawn timber capacity is up to 450,000m3 annually – more than twice as much as five years ago.

The majority of the supplied round timber is PEFC-certified and is 100% processed directly at the site into sawn timber, solid wood panels, formwork panels and wood pellets.

Pfeifer Holding GmbH has 13 locations in Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic and Finland, with around 5.4 million m3 of wood cut annually.
