A phased closure of JELD-WEN’s Lowestoft components factory is likely to take place, the company announced after further talks with unions.
A JELD-WEN spokesperson said the company met UCATT and GMB last Friday where the union representatives were told that little could be done to save the site from closure.
The 194 staff were updated with the news this morning.
“A phased closure over the next few months and employee redundancy packages were discussed,” said the spokesperson.
A 90-day consultation period with staff is already under way.
The Lowestoft factory, the former Boulton & Paul site, focuses on mill work, producing window components, as well as door cores and a small amount of door production.
