Ports on the east coast of Britain are bracing for more heavy snowfall but say they have coped well thus far with December’s severe weather.

The UK’s largest ports operator, ABP, said it had experienced some difficulties at Hull and Goole during the recent blizzards “but nothing major”. There was a slow turnaround of container lorries due to conditions at Hull Container Terminal.

Freezing fog also caused delays to some larger vessels on the Humber.

PD Ports’ Teesport has implemented a daily 24-hour snow clearing and gritting operation to keep the port operational.

Its engineering team has detailed resources and equipment to plough snow away from roads and operational areas, “significantly minimising” weather impact on daily services and access routes.
