Pressure-treated southern pine lumber production grew by 7.8% to 3.3 billion board feet during the first half of 2005, according to grading agencies accredited to the American Lumber Standard Committee.

The Southern Forest Products Association (SFPA) said demand for treated southern pine remains strong despite increased costs of wood preservatives and a growing challenge from the wood/plastic composites market.

SFPA predicts production to reach 6.3 billion board feet this year.
