In conjunction with builder Norwest Holst and the University Partnerships Programme (UPP), Prestoplan is to provide prefabricated floor and roof cassettes for the three- and four-storey accommodation blocks, which have been incorporated into the design to ensure that the project meets its Christmas 2007 deadline.

According to Prestoplan, the use of timber frame construction goes hand-in-hand with the building of student residences as both are growth markets, with the student accommodation sector valued at £17bn at the end of 2006.

“This increased demand for high quality student accommodation is mirrored by the growing demand for timber frames as the construction sector moves away from traditional brick and block methods,” said Prestoplan sales director Andrew Acford. “This latest project is one of a number of such schemes currently being undertaken by Prestoplan nationally.”

As well as the multi-million pound student accommodation job, Prestoplan are to deliver timber frames for a £5.6m housing development in Coventry.
