Swedish prime minister Göran Persson, who has become a forest owner, has been on a timber industry fact-finding tour across the country.
The trip took him to SCA Forest Products in Sundsvall where he followed the value chain from seed planting at the Bogrundet tree nursery through to “Deck in a box” products at Bollsta sawmill. He also drove a harvester in the forest.
SCA Forest Products’ president Kenneth Eriksson told Mr Persson of SCA’s strength in controlling the entire value chain and optimal use of raw materials.
Mr Persson said the forestry sector was a valuable asset for the national economy and required a long-term commitment, both in forestry and industrial investments.
