Rörvik Timber AB has confirmed it had 11,000m³ of timber aboard the Sinegorsk cargo ship that shed 1,500 tonnes of untreated sawn timber off the Sussex coast on January 19.
Timber has started to come ashore along the Kent coast, with pine bearing Rorvik ‘s logo strewn across the beach at Ramsgate. A large volume is still in packs, eyewitnesses report.
These exclusive pictures taken for TTJ show the volume of timber across the beach.
The Sinegorsk incident comes little more than a year after the Greek-registered Ice Prince shed 2,000 tonnes of Swedish timber. The clean-up operation took months and affected beaches along the Sussex coast.
It has also spawned its own arts festival, with the inaugural Ice Prince Arts Festival coincidentally kicking off on January 19, when a stain glass panel depicting the incident was unveiled on Worthing Pier.
