Decorative arches have been added to a Grade ll listed 13th century church in south Wales by specialist joiner AR Manley & Sons Ltd.

The company, a member of the British Woodworking Federation, has made a series of elliptical arches in English oak that have been installed beneath a new load-bearing roof covered in slate.

The church at Gedwelty, Caerphilly features an unusual layout with two 13th century naves separated by a stone arcade. While the north aisle still retains a historic medieval oak ‘wagon’ roof, the weight of the high collared roofs over the south nave have caused the walls to spread by almost a metre.

Work on the nave in the mid 20th century saw the original roof replaced with an A-frame structure.
