Forfar Sheriff Court confirmed that Rembrand, Scotland’s largest independent timber and builders’ merchant, had pleaded guilty to a charge under the Health and Safety at Work Act relating to an incident on December 16, 2009 when a forklift driver was injured by falling wood.

The incident at Rembrand’s Tealing site saw the driver try to adjust a leaning stack of timber packs but some of the wood fell fell onto him, seriously injuring his leg.

The court heard that it was the first health and safety incident of its kind at Rembrand for 30 years.

The court’s penalty was moderated from £75,000 due to an early guilty plea.
