Dundee-based Rembrand Timber is bucking the gloomy economic trend by opening two new sites in a £1m investment.
The company, Scotland’s largest independent timber merchant, will open a depot in Newton Stewart in the Borders during August, while a further branch will be launched in September at Thurso, in the Highlands.
The expansion creates about 15 jobs and will increase Rembrand’s branch network to 16 sites.
“Whilst there is evidence of a general slowdown, particularly given the strong run we have had over the last few years, we remain confident about the long-term prospects for the industry,” said managing director George Low.
Mr Low, who hopes to report record annual financial results in the autumn, said Rembrand was looking to new markets and products to develop the business.
Rembrand’s company secretary Steve Mason said the business had a diversified customer base and did not deal much with struggling national housebuilders.
