The Forest Footprint Disclosure Project (FFDP) will release its first report on February 10 highlighting which businesses’ activities contribute to deforestation.
The initiative, launched last year and backed by the UK government and major financial institutions, sent out a questionnaire to over 200 companies worldwide, including such blue-chip operations as Kingfisher, Nestlé, McDonald’s and Next. This quizzed them on a range of topics, including corporate social responsibility policy and forest products and other raw materials useage and sourcing. From this information the FFDP has calculated their individual ‘forest footprint’ and how they can reduce it.
Among the FFDP recommendations to businesses to cut the risk of contributing to deforestation is to source third-party certified timber and forest products.
The report launch takes place at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in London.
