Tropical timber producer Rougier saw its turnover grow by 9.3% to €74.1m in the first half of 2011.
The company’s second quarter turnover was up 5.9% to €39.6m compared to a year ago.
Rougier’s sawn timber sales were up 26.5% and now represent 53.2% of consolidated sales. Volumes of main species are rising sharply and are said to be stimulated by the increased attractiveness for certified wood in mature and developing markets.
Sales of plywood and veneer were down by 11.9% and represent 22.6% of consolidated sales, mainly due to the extension of deadlines and delivery of shipments from Gabon.
The lion’s share of sales (€55.6m) were in the Rougier Africa International business.
“The first half of 2011 confirms the relevance of a strategy focused on increasing industrialized production, certification and geographic market diversification,” said the company.
