Södra Timber has delivered its first orders of FSC-certified timber.
The orders were dispatched to its two biggest customers in the Netherlands – PontMeyer and Stiho.
Half the timber volume Södra measured in August was dual certified to the FSC and PEFC certification systems.
“FSC is a strong brand,” said Andreas Jonasson, marketing manager at Södra Timber.
“In some countries FSC has also become a strong criteria in public procurement processes, which means our customers see it as a requirement for the timber they deliver.
Södra said interest in FSC was greatest in the Netherlands and the UK.
“Demand for certified timber has increased greatly in recent years and we can’t sell uncertified products to our customers,” said Simon Henry, of UK-based Crown Timber. “That our supplier Södra Timber can now deliver FSC further strengthens our market position.”
Currently, 1.5 million ha of Södra member estates are PEFC-certified, but the objective is for two-thirds of this area to be dual certified in 2010.
