SCA Timber (UK) Ltd is the latest supplier to sign up to the British Woodworking Federation‘s (BWF) Timber Windows Accreditation Scheme.

The Swedish forestry giant joins UPM-Kymmene and Boxon-Nordrä as approved suppliers of timber.

Anders Ek, SCA marketing manager, said: ‘Joining the BWF’s windows scheme will enable us to better understand customer priorities. Our 150 years’ experience with timber will also be put to good use for the benefit of BWF members.’

BWF product manager Adam Franklin said: ‘It is good we have SCA in the scheme. The quality of the timber is an important part of the window and having timber suppliers within the scheme helps everybody.’

Scheme members are under no obligation to use approved suppliers but, by 2004, all windows made under the scheme will have to use timber from sustainably managed forests.

The BWF uses the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or Pan-European Forest Certification as benchmarks. SCA’s forests are FSC-certified.

Other BWF approved suppliers provide hardware, preservative treatments and seals.
