The two companies have had a close trading relationship for some time and both see the acquisition by SCA as a logical step.
SCA achieved UK sales last year of £75m, delivering 300,000m3 of timber products. Severn has annual turnover of £12m, with planed product capacity of 60,000m3 and treated timber capacity of 10,000m3 a year.
“Severn Timber has been working clsosely with SCA for some time and this move consolidates business opportunities for both companies,” said Severn managing director Alun Gape, who will remain as head of operations.
“Together we will provide an even more effective supply channel from the forest to the UK’s builders merchant community, with both companies playing to their strengths,” added SCA Timber Supply managing director Rob Simpson.
The acquisition statement from the company stressed that there would be no redundancies or changes in staff as a result of the acquisition. SCA Timber Supply employs 100 people and Severn Timber 50.
