Nine more SCA customer trainees have gained their Timber Studies Award from the Institute of Wood Science (IWSc). One gained a distinction, five gained credit and three a pass.

The candidates were from JF Goodwillie, which hosted the southern-based course, Hoppings Timber, Snows Timber, HLC and Travis Perkins.

Rob Simpson, managing director of SCA Timber UK, said: ‘Complacency – thinking we “know it all” – must not be allowed a part in the timber trade’s future. The IWSc Timber Studies Award provides sound training, highly relevant to the industry.

‘It also helps the emerging generation with the changing language and specifications they’ll meet as definitions become standardised across Europe. Training offers our trade the confidence to meet the challenges ahead – and it should be grasping the opportunity.’

A north-west based SCA training course is under way.
