The annual Scotland’s Finest Woods Awards (SFWA) programme for 2011 has been unveiled as part of the country’s contribution to the United Nation’s International Year of Forests, which was launched on February 2.

“This year we are setting out to showcase all that is best in Scotland’s management of its woods and forests and how they contribute to the wealth and wellbeing of Scotland’s people,” said Peter Wilson, executive director of SFWA. “As always our judges will be seeking out Scotland’s finest woods and rewarding the pursuit of excellence.”

There are four categories: the Schools Award; the Community Woodlands Award; the New Native Woods Award; and the Quality Timber Award.

The latter will focus on quality timber, whether from single stands or large multi-purpose forests.
