The Finnish Forest Certification Scheme (FFCS) is the first in the world to receive renewed endorsement from the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) schemes council.

It follows a complete multi-stakeholder revision process by an independent consultant incorporating the latest scientific research and practical experience from the field.

Ben Gunneberg, secretary-general of the PEFC Council, said: “To ensure continuous improvement in the setting of sustainable forest management standards, it is imperative that standards are revised every five years.”

Auvo Kaivola, secretary-general of FFCS, said his organisation was delighted to be the first national system to successfully go through a complete revision process and gain PEFC endorsement for a second time.

He added: “The large number of participants in the Finnish certification system highlights its successful contribution to the sustainable management of Finland’s forests.”
