Swedish Wood products manufacturer Setra Group has announced that it is to scale back the production of sawn whitewood during the fourth quarter of 2007, due to “currently limited” market demand for low-grade whitewood.
Setra plans to cut the production of sawn whitewood during the quarter by as much as 20%, equating to 30,000m3 and 4% of the company’s annual production of the material.
“Long-term demand for sawn whitewood remains good, however, due to windfall across Europe last winter, there is a temporary short-term surplus of whitewood raw material,” said Setra marketing director Urban Torstenson.
“We will continue to give priority to customers that attach a premium to high-grade whitewood products using freshly sawn timber and will therefore stop sawing low-grade whitewood.”
