Frame Wise constructed the frame on a podium slab as part of a 92-apartment building on a former service station site in the centre of Swindon. Part of the deal with developer Contract House Builders was for thermally efficient wall panels and speed of build.
A Frame Wise spokesperson said site constraints and lack of access to one elevation for scaffolding meant that panels had to be fully finished with brick slips or render and windows before being craned into position.
The company used Saint-Gobain Isover 140mm timber frame batt 32 in the external walls, 65mm acoustic partition roll in the internal walls and 100mm in the floors, and timber frame batt 35 in the roof. Work at the site began last summer and is due to finish before the autumn.
Frame Wise managing director Simon Orrells said: “We specified the Isover insulation on our past experience. It enables us to handle the much larger package and has contributed to the environmental effect and helps with the speed of the build.”
