Talk of SIG acquiring SR Timber had been circulating in the roofing industry since before Christmas but SIG only made an announcement yesterday.
The move has raised questions about whether SIG intends to continue buying battens from other suppliers – something that has not yet been made clear.
"This acquisition will help both strengthen our business and support our vision and, through continuous investment and innovation, we will be able to offer even greater added-value to our unrivalled roofing solutions," said Philip Johns, managing director at SIG Roofing & Roofline.
Shaun Revill, SR Timber trading director, said the "combined strength" of SIG and SR Timber would benefit the roofing industry.
He said SIG was looking forward to further improving its offer to its customers, both in terms of offering added value to its portfolio of sawn timber solutions and continuing to build SR Timber’s Vacsol Premium Gold batten.
The Vacsol Premium Gold roofing batten is manufactured by SR Timber’s partner supplier in the Baltic states.
