Timber connector manufacturer Simpson Strong-Tie says it is the first company of its kind to embrace the CE marking standard.

The Tamworth-based manufacturer is challenging others to follow its lead and says converting to CE marked products will help companies demonstrate tangible evidence of commitment to full compliance with the standards that demonstrate fitness for purpose.

CE marking has been implemented in much of Europe but is not yet compulsory in the UK.

“As the first company in Europe to adopt CE marking where no compulsory legislation is in place, this demonstrates not only our commitment to pioneer the latest industry standards, but also highlights our mission to maintain our integrity as a manufacturer and we look forward to seeing this standard progress in the UK,” said Richard Miles, Simpson’s sales and marketing director.

Simpson is planning the launch of its 2008 UK catalogue with CE marked products and it has also set up a page dedicated to the topic on its website which will soon be publishing CE product specification data.
