The consortium has won the race to develop part of the former Rowan High School site in the London borough of Merton into 227 energy efficient homes. It has already secured two other sites in Newport Pagnell and Maidstone.
The success means the SIXTYK Consortium has won more sites than any other entrant in the competition, which challenges the construction industry to provide quality homes for a £60,000 build cost. The consortium will be building 441 homes across the three projects.
Kingpsan TEK’s homes are made from structural insulated panels. Units at Merton will have a U-value of 0.20W/m2K and will incorporate renewable energy such as a photo-voltaic system, a combined heat and power plant and rainwater harvesting.
“To be awarded a third site in the Design for Manufacture competition has given a strong validation to our approach to environmentally sustainable housing design, supply and construction,” said Kingspan TEK national sales manager Jeff Tomlinson.
