Papua New Guinea’s Forestry Authority is expressing concern about the smuggling of eaglewood (agarwood/garahu) out of the country.
It says export earnings are being lost by the increasing smuggling, often involving small planes flying into rural areas and loading up wood without proper grading processes.
Illegal or undeclared exports are mainly going via the West Sepik province to Papua (formerly West Irian) and other regions of Indonesia.
