Victorian Sash Co undertook the restoration project and spent £1,000 on restoring 22 windows, with each featuring 80lbs of lead weights from Mighton Products Ltd to help balance them.
“We wanted to reinstate the windows to their former glory by putting sashes that work back in and exposing some timber,” said Darren Synclair, owner of Victoria Sash Co.
“We use stackable lead weights because they are much easier to handle, are more compact and still provide ease of movement.”
Mighton, a manufacturer of hardware for sash windows, recently launched the stackable weights, which are designed to allow adjustments to be made easily and any size window to be balanced correctly, and is set to unveil an updated version of its Powersash system to allow modern technology to be installed in older sash windows.
