BBC News South East Today presenter Beverley Thompson handed Stamco timber its CommunityMark award at a recent ceremony in Hastings.

Stamco Timber is the first timber merchant in the UK to achieve the national CommunityMark standard.

Company secretary Nicholas Wilde said: “We have always supported our local community but the CommunityMark model has helped us to be able to measure the positive impact on the community and the business.

“We have won new business as a result of our community work and it has helped with increasing staff skills and motivation as well as publicity.”

Stamco Timber has supported a number of local community groups and schools. Help ranges from staff volunteering, to donating stock and redundant equipment, taking work experience students and offering sponsorship and discounted products.
