Steico has introduced what it bills as a “new high strength engineered timber option for load-bearing applications” into the UK market.
Steicoultralam R is a laminated veneer lumber designed for use as main, flush and ceiling beams, rim boards, sole and top plates and lintels. It can also be used for door produts and “other high strength industrial and commercial applications”.
The new products is FSC certified and CE certified to EN 14374 and Steico says it has a vertical bend strength of 48N/mm² and tensile strength of 38N/mm².
Steicoultralam is produced in Russia by Taleon Terra (formerly MLT) in a new LVL plant close to Moscow. The factory includes the world’s longest Dieffenbacher press.
Steico Ltd managing director Andy Moore said the addition of LVL to its range was a “significant complement” to its I-joist and insulation products”.
“It extends the scope of our load-bearing soultions across a wide variety of residentaial and commercial applications,” he said. “And it provides real competitno in a market previously dominated by Finnish product with about an 80% share.”
He added that LVL stocks will be held by Steico at Rochester and that lead times from Russia will be three weeks.
