The company said the house, which will be unveiled at the BRE‘s OFFSITE2007 event on June 11-14, has been designed to be one of the first commercially viable homes to meet the five-star rating in the government’s new Code for Sustainable Homes.
Stewart Milne‘s house will feature renewable energy technologies, high quality insulation and a small building footprint to minimise land costs per unit and retain affordability for purchasers.
“The single biggest impact on our business will be climate change and we felt we should take an industry lead by building a commercially viable house that reflected the government’s objective to achieve zero carbon houses within a decade,” said Glenn Allison, Stewart Milne Group managing director.
“Our decision to create this potentially five star house as a commercial reality gives us the opportuity to show key influencers in the housing sector that it is feasible to build low carbon houses in an affordable fashion,” he added.
Construction work will start in the next few weeks.
