Stora Enso has launched a joint transport supply system for its Nordic mills to improve cost efficiency and service.
The implementation of the first phase of the North European Transport Supply System (NETSS) will unite the company’s transport operations in southern Finland and Sweden and will result in 10% cost savings from its €80m annual transport expenditure.
It will also serve as a platform for further development of the company’s transport and distribution services in Europe.
Shipping services from southern Finland to the UK and Belgium will be replaced by a “next-generation” system “hub and spoke” principle, with Stora Enso cargo units as the main carrier.
Cargo flows from southern Finland will concentrate on Kotka, where Stora Enso will enter into a long-term stevedoring contract with Steveco. The port of Gothenburg will expand its operations to include cargo from Finland.
First phase implementation is scheduled for July 1, 2005,
