Stora Enso is to supply one of the largest wooden roofs in Finland to cover what will be Europe’s largest car showroom.
The 50,000m² roof for the Sunny Car Centre in Hämeenlinna will be produced at Stora Enso’s Pälkäne plant and features cross-laminated timber as the visible lower surface in the highest parts of the building.
Components will be produced during the autumn and assembled in March 2013.
“Construction professionals, especially in Finland, are becoming more and more aware of the advantages and possibilities of wood,” said Hannu Kasurinen, head of Stora Enso Building and Living.
“Several projects announced since the end of 2011, such as Wood City, Nuuksio national nature centre and Joensuun Elli, confirm this positive development which we aim to continue in all our main markets.”
