The Scottish Timber Trade Association (STTA) says it will continue to sponsor student prizes at the Centre for Timber Engineering at Edinburgh Napier University.
Four prizes will be offered this year and will relate to the design and use of timber and wood products in various aspects of construction, including structural engineering and architectural technology.
The 2009 prize categories are: Best dissertation by a timber or timber Industry management student; Best timber related Honours dissertation project; Best student performance in the ‘properties and structural use of timber’ module; and the Most innovative use of timber in a design project by a second year architectural technology student.
STTA is pleased to continue to support the valuable work undertaken at the Centre for Timber Engineering, which is currently celebrating its sixth anniversary and we are delighted to recognise students’ achievements,” said Russell Paterson, STTA president.
“The prizes represent a good spread of subjects, encompassing materials, design and engineering, as well as being open to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Wood and wood products are undoubtedly experiencing a renaissance, as their unique qualities are being recognised by a wide range of specifiers and users.
“We hope that students from the Centre for Timber Engineering will put their timber knowledge gained at University to good use throughout their careers.”
The STTA prizes will be presented at Edinburgh Napier University’s graduation ceremony during the summer.
