The Sunday Telegraph has printed the letter of complaint from the UK Timber Frame Association (UK TFA), co-signed by wood. for good and the Timber Trade Federation, in response to an article stating that the Yarl’s Wood immigration centre in Bedfordshire ‘suffered dramatic fire damage because it was timber framed’ (TTJ March 9).
The article by Jeff Howell incensed the timber industry which pointed out that timber frame exceeds Building Regulations and performs as well as other constructions in fire.
As evidence mounted that Mr Howell was incorrect the newspaper agreed to print the letter on March 10.
