A survey by wood panel producer Nexfor Ltd has shown the growing impact of MDF on the UK market.
The survey, run in the firm’s Agenda newsletter, had hundreds of respondents, including manufacturers, merchants, architects and designers.
It revealed MDF’s widespread use and popularity, plus a demand for more sophisticated product versions with a wider choice of colours, textures, mouldings and finishes.
Of firms that recorded a volume increase in MDF, 42% experienced growth of 30% or more.
Most architects and designers who responded use MDF in various ways, ranging from shopfitting to doors and furniture. They believe in future expansion potential for MDF, calling for wider product choice, improved waterproofing qualities for external use and different density availability.
Distributors and merchants reported MDF usage growth in shopfitting, office construction, furniture making and general joinery.
Nexfor says the MDF market is growing at an average annual rate of 10%.
