The government has said timber being used in the construction of a new office for the Environment Agency near Oxford is from sustainably managed sources.
Minister for the environment Elliot Morley, who said the agency is currently having a new leasehold office built to its requirements at Wallingford, said preliminary indications show that timber procured by the agency in 2003-2004 came from sustainable sources. He was responding to a parliamentary written question by Joan Walley MP.
Mr Morley said the agency’s procurement of sustainably managed timber is reported publicly at quarterly board meetings and in its annual environmental report.
