The share of wooden apartment buildings in Sweden has reached 20% and is continuing to grow, according to the Finnish Forest Industries Federation.
Niclas Svensson, who heads the Swedish Wood Building Bureau, said the success of wood has been furthered by environmental and climate concerns.
He said the wood products industry had managed to help builders shorten construction times and improve quality.
In Sweden, it is possible when renovating apartment buildings to erect three new wooden storeys on top of the existing structure.
In Finland, timber apartment buildings have less than a 1% share of the apartment buildings sector.
