Swedwood has opened a US$15m furniture component and materials plant in Russia’s Leningrad region.
Design capacity of the plant is 150,000m3 of “processed wood” products and 30,000m3 of finished components for the assembled furniture sector per year. Products will be supplied to IKEA‘s furniture factories in Sweden and Central Europe and to IKEA stores in Russia.
Over the next five years IKEA itself plans to invest US$140m in Russian timber processing and furniture enterprises.
