Sykes Timber has continued the next phase of its machinery investment with the addition of a Hundegger HM3 planer.
The company, which has a 10-acre site in Atherstone, bought the HM3 as machine as an automatic four-sided planer of large-section and heavy structural timbers, making it an ideal addition to Sykes’ growing oak beam operation.
The HM3 is capable of processing sections up to 300 × 400mm and will significantly increase the company’s capacity for planed oak beams and other large-section timber products.
The automated handling, thickness control and adjustable feed system will help deliver greater consistency, shorter lead times and a wider range of finished sections.
“This investment will strengthen our offering across standard beam sections and bespoke cutting lists for timber merchants, oak framers, construction customers and specialist timber users throughout the UK,” the company stated.
Sykes Timber is a sixth-generation timber business and says it is committed to combining generations of hardwood knowledge with continued investment in modern UK timber processing.
