The project consists of three levels of softwood timber decking balcony structures, using European redwood. The lower level supports two higher levels in portico style, using laminated timber posts around 8m high.

The house, built in the late Victorian era, is a convalescent home, owned and managed by the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund, to provide accommodation for former film and television employees.

The deck boards used in the construction of the balconies are a structural product requiring grading to BS4978:1996, and, to meet this standard, HLD, which is part of the John Brash Group, grades all deck boards to either strength class C16 or C24.

The board is thoroughly inspected to ensure there are no knot holes or excessive dead knots, and then pressure treated with a copper-based preservative. The whole project was completed in less than three weeks.
