Timber Coaters Ltd has announced the acquisition of Palmer Primer Ltd, a British manufacturer of specialist coating machinery for the timber industry.

Timber Coaters, one of the UK’s largest independent timber coating specialists, said the strategic acquisition strengthens Timber Coaters’ market position by bringing in-house access to Palmer Primer’s advanced engineering and machinery technologies.

Palmer Primer Ltd is known across the industry for its vacuum and primer coating systems.

Palmer Primer Ltd will continue to trade under its established name, maintaining its identity and long-standing reputation, while benefiting from the resources, technical expertise, and operational support of Timber Coaters Ltd. The two businesses will work closely together to accelerate product development, enhance service capability, and extend their reach across the timber manufacturing and processing sectors.

“Palmer Primer’s machinery has been instrumental in raising the bar for coating applications across the UK timber industry,” said Graeme Thomas, managing director of Timber Coaters Ltd.

“By combining their engineering strengths with our technical expertise, we’re creating a powerful partnership focused on advancing quality, performance and customer value.”

The acquisition includes the full transfer of Palmer Primer’s assets, technical knowledge, and production capabilities. It forms part of Timber Coaters Ltd’s long-term strategy to expand its technical capability, reduce supply chain dependencies, and strengthen its end-to-end offering for the timber industry.

Timber Coaters Ltd was established in 1996 and is based on The Wirral, specialising in factory-applied coatings for internal and external timber applications. It uses vacuum and automatic spray coating lines.
