Plum Creek Timber Company and Weyerhaeuser have donated significant amounts to support aid efforts in South-east Asia in the wake of the Boxing day tsunami.
The Plum Creek Foundation gave US$50,000 to CARE and US$25,000 to the Northwest Medical Teams Disaster Relief Fund, which is sending doctors, nurses and paramedics to the affected regions.
President and CEO Rick Holley said: “We are deeply concerned about the enormous human impacts of these catastrophic events.”
Weyerhaeuser has contributed U$100,000 to help areas affected by the tsunami and has pledged that it will match a further contribution of US$100,000 from employees, taking the total contributed overall to US$300,000.
Weyerhaeuser is giving the money to the CARE Asia Quake Disaster fund to support the immediate relief effort. Weyerhaeuser Foundation Company president Liz Crossman said it would also talk to customers about the possibility of contributing goods and services to assist with the longer-term reconstruction of the area affected by the tidal wave.
