Germany’s carpentry and joinery industry has made a plea for the country to use more timber.
Ullrich Huth of Timber Germany made the plea during an official opening of the International Year of Forests in Berlin. The event was attended by German federal president Christian Wulff.
Mr Huth told the president that the timber industry was committed to sustainable management of German forests.
Timber Germany – the Association of German master carpenters in the Central Association of German Construction Industry – represents 10,800 carpentry firms in Germany employing nearly 59,000 people and generate annual sales of €4.8bn.
