There are signs that – for the first time – UK funding for the wood. for good campaign is going to be greater than Nordic funding in 2006.

Wood. for good managing director Charles Trevor said budgets would be set at the end of January and he was hopeful that the UK timber industry would make its biggest contribution ever.

He said: “We have been very active since the spring, going out to the UK timber industry and selling membership to wood. for good and the benefits of contributing to the campaign.”

Meanwhile, the Timber Trade Federation (TTF) has decided that, for the third year running, it will be unable to make a contribution to wood. for good in 2006.

But Mr Trevor said: “The response from the trade itself will offset the lack of contribution from the TTF. It is disappointing, but we understand they have difficult times and have to cut their cloth accordingly.”
