The project, launched by the Prince of Wales at BRE’s Watford headquarters on June 23, will aim to tackle the problems associated with older housing stock, such as draughty windows, damp and poor insulation.
It will begin with the conversion of a Victorian stable block on the BRE’s site into flexible and energy efficient accommodation.
“This is a call to industry,” said BRE’s Jaya Skandamoorthy. “We would be interested in hearing from companies, whether it’s insulation or technology that can be used.”
He said the timber sector was welcome to be involved.
The partnership, designed as an alternative to demolishing Victorian housing stock, also involves the Prince’s Foundation, the East of England Development Agency and the University of Hertfordshire.
