Ice Prince, the Greek-registered cargo ship that was abandoned off the Dorset coast yesterday, has sunk.
The Marine & Coastguard Agency (MCA) said that timber from the ship had been washed overboard and that surveillance aircraft would be assessing the extent of the debris from the wreck.
Ice Prince was carring 5,258 metric tonnes of timber, with 2,000 tonnes on the deck, to Alexandria in Egypt when it ran into trouble on Sunday evening.
MCA added that Devon and Dorset police and local authorities have been alerted to the likely impact on the shoreline, including debris washing ashore, although this “may be some days away given the distance of the foundering from the coast”.
